Fourth of July

Summer is the busy season for Dan. Since about May his work load has increased considerably and we just don't get to see him as much! One of the things they are working hard for is all of the 4th of July celebrations around town. This year they played on the 3rd, the 4th and the 5th!

On the 3rd, the band plays at the annual Fort Carson "4th on the 3rd" celebration. Food, games, fun and fireworks! And... bad weather :(  Right when I showed up it started drizzling, then raining, then pouring, then lightning and thunder! All music was postponed since electronics were getting wet. After about an hour it started to lighten up so the brass band came out and entertained the crowd. Then finally the concert band was able to play just before the fireworks! We were a muddy mess when we got home

Next day, Dan's MPT (smaller musical group) was to perform at Memorial Park as part of the musical celebrations all day leading up to the Colorado Springs Symphony playing for the fireworks. There were 3 MPTs scheduled to play and the concert band was to perform afterwards. We got to the park to hear Dan's MPT play, and then guess what? It started raining! It died down and it looked like they were going to be able to perform. We got settled in front of the stage, I snapped a picture...

... and literally a few seconds after this picture, a huge WIND gust came through and parts of the stage started falling apart! They shut the show down and got their instruments and gear to safety. The kids and I ran to the car. :(

After about an hour the concert band was able to perform, but we didn't come back. Dan came home a little later and the weather was great for the rest of our 4th of July. We picked up a bucket of chicken and headed back to Memorial Park with the Bennetts for music and fireworks!

Ah Colorado weather, you make life so interesting!!

Sunday evening, when life had calmed a little bit for Dan, we had a nice relaxing BBQ with the Bennetts and set off our own stash of fireworks. I've always loved setting off fireworks and I think it's fun family tradition!

Hope you all had a great 4th of July!!
