Loving the view

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day! I got Dan some shaving stuff (he's obsessed!), and he surprised me with some diamond earrings. He took the boys with him to help pick them out, and I think they did a great job!

Our niece JoDee is living with us for a few months, so we took advantage of the chance at a night out. We headed to our favorite Korean restaurant for dinner...

Mmmm... samgyupsal....

...and finished our date with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. It was a fabulous concert. It was inspiring to see such a young pianist seemingly at his prime at 19 years of age. He wasn't just a technical player, he was passionate and had a brilliant mind.

We went to Melting Pot for some dessert and then enjoyed a night to ourselves at a local hotel. The only drawback was the 75mph winds that gusted all night long, and were quite loud in our hotel room. We're tired!

Despite being tired, the weather has warmed up for the time being so I really wanted to get out and hike. We tried Blodgett Peak open space. It had been closed due to wildfire damage but was recently reopened. It was a beautiful hike!

It was very muddy and slushy, making some areas almost impossible to pass. We ended up stopping about half way up the mountain since most of the area was shaded, slick, and still heading up. Coming down was a bit treacherous and we even got lost for a bit. The trails were marked, but there was no map to reference anything so we missed a turn to head back down to the parking lot. All just part of the adventure, right?

Oh, and I just had to share this last picture. We thought Carson was carrying a stick in his mouth, but thought it was weird that he was holding it for so long. He finally dropped it and when we got a closer look we realized it was some sort of animal foot! Yuck!

What a great weekend. Sure love living here :)

Pikes Peak

Yay! One thing crossed off the bucket list already! We finally made it up to the top of Pikes Peak, via car. But man was it COLD and WINDY! Wind chill of -15 and winds strong enough to blow our kids around!

Me and the boys
Dan and the  boys (every picture had alex's mouth open! it was cold and windy!)

A kind soul took a family picture for us, but it's not very close up. Oh well. We'll try when it's warm

Alex was grumpy about the donuts and hot chocolate

I quite enjoyed them!

Scenery from the top of Pikes Peak

For me the most memorable part of the trip was seeing this goat at the tippy top of Pikes Peak. They had said we might see them a few miles before the summit, but he was right there at the top with us!

After braving the cold and wind up top, we headed back down. At this stop you get quite a good view of pikes peak behind you, and the boys threw ice on the frozen reservoir.

And apparently there have been Bigfoot sightings in the Pikes Peak region. All the gift shops have Big Foot paraphernalia, hahaha

We had fun despite the weather. Can't wait to go up again when it's warm out!
